International Day - 2nd June 2017

Our parish “International Day” event was held on Saturday 3^rd June. To the best of our knowledge, this was the first time an event of this kind has been held. The objective of the event was to celebrate the wonderful diversity of nationalities, backgrounds and cultures we have in our parish and the enrichment this brings.

We specifically chose the Saturday prior to Pentecost when we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit, as this feast represents everything we were trying to achieve. “O Holy Spirit, descend plentifully into our hearts. Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling”. Saint Augustine of Hippo (354-430)

It was with some trepidation that we planned this event, but we need not have been concerned as the support we received was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. Over seventy people attended with representation from eight different countries. The variety of the food for the main course was remarkable, with dishes from Sri-Lanka, Poland, India, The Philippines, Nigeria, Ireland and England. And it didn’t stop there, the selection of the various desserts was just as impressive! It was a truly extraordinary and memorable spread, and sincere thanks to everyone who attended, and helped to make such a feast possible.

In reality, though, whilst the meal was simply delicious, the real magic of the evening was without doubt the atmosphere that was created. It brought such joy to see parishioners sat side by side chatting away and to experience the sound of laughter echoing around the hall was simply amazing.

The challenge now is how to embrace this atmosphere and togetherness for the benefit of all and our parish. Well, planning for another event next year is underway and we have already received comments on how we can improve on what was achieved. Feedback is key and we would like to receive your comments on how we can improve the social interaction within our parish. One simple step would of course be to ensure you greet someone you don’t know at Mass. Break the ice and step out of your comfort zone, with a smile on your face. Be sure you will have the power of the Holy Spirit on your side!

We would warmly welcome your thoughts and these can be given to any committee member, passed on to the Parish Office.

On behalf of the Social Committee sincere thanks to you all for the support you gave at the Christmas Fayre, which enabled us to raise the magnificent sum of £2422-45. The effort you all put in is very much appreciated and I hope you agree that the end result makes it all worthwhile. There are lists of what each stall made and the winners in the various raffles in the porch for you check out.

Following Mass today there is another chance to meet socially as we celebrate the 77th anniversary of the opening of our church. Tea and Coffee will be available after 9-00am Mass and drinks and nibbles after 6-00pm Mass. One suggestion, as well as talking to parishioners you know, seek out someone you only know by sight and engage them in conversation. It's amazing what a friendly word will do.

Our Parish 75th Anniversary Celebration

Everyone had a wonderful time at our Parish celebration on Saturday!

Our priests, Fr. Frank and Fr. Jim, were joined in celebrating Mass by our previous priest Fr. Patrick Auger, who travelled up from Chard especially. Children from the school, also joined in our celebration by taking part in the offertory and reading. The school choir sang beautifully, uplifting our spirits!

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us. It was wonderful to see again old friends and families who have contributed to Parish life over the years.

Thank you also to everyone who worked hard behind the scenes to organise the celebration.
  

Our Parish 75th Anniversary Celebrations

Come and celebrate with us on the Church's 75th Anniversary, 7.00pm Saturday 1st December.

We will have a Mass of praise and thanksgiving in the Church at 7.00pm followed by an American Supper in the School Hall. 

Everyone who has been part of the Parish over the years is welcome to come along to  reunite with old friends and share your memories of the Parish!

Christmas Fayre

Our Parish Christmas Fayre will be held on Saturday 24th November from 12 midday until 4pm.

Come along and visit Father Christmas in his grotto, get some Christmas bargins, enjoy the children's crafts and have some refreshments!

All Time Dance 2012

A big thank you to the Social Committee for their All Time Dance fundraiser last Saturday. 

50 tickets were sold and as you can see from our photos the evening was great fun for all who attended! And £335.56 was raised for Parish Funds!

Special thanks go to Sharon Kitchen and Lisa Young for their hard work.

September Social Event

Come to our  ALL TIME DANCE on Saturday,15th September at 7.30pm until late.

There will be music to suit all tastes, a buffet and a bar so get your dancing shoes ready!
